Tanker drivers across Jamaica have agreed to return to work today, despite lingering concerns about their employment conditions.
The decision was made on Sunday during a meeting with the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE), which represents more than 200 tanker drivers.
Several tanker drivers called in sick on Saturday as they pushed for a number of longstanding employment issues to be addressed.
UCASE President Vincent Morrison told Radio Jamaica News that the union will seek a meeting with the management of Rubis Energy Jamaica to discuss issues surrounding the termination of three workers.
“We feel the action of Rubis is extremely unforgivable,” he declared, further characterising it as “wrong, unfair,” as a result of which, he said “the workers right across the petroleum sector… are very concerned, very upset (and) restive over the decision of Rubis.”
He’s hoping for a “common sense” response on the part of the company, “and that the management will meet us, so we can have further dialogue” in order to resolve the dispute.
