Police probing four separate murders on Monday

As the Police High Command pushes its anti-crime initiative to reduce murders and other major crimes this year, gunmen struck on Monday leaving four people dead.
A 59-year-old businesswoman, Marlene McCalla, otherwise called ‘Mammy’ was shot dead in Annotto Bay, St. Mary, about 9:30 Monday night.
It’s reported that Ms. McCalla, who operated a bar in Dover district, was inside the establishment when she was approached by a man with a firearm.
She reportedly ran but was shot multiple times by the gunman who escaped in the area.
The St. Mary Police are urging anyone with information on the killer to contact them.
Two other murders were recorded in St. James on Monday.
Twenty-year-old footballer Rohan Thomas, otherwise called ‘Rojay’, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Lottery, St. James on Monday morning.
The cops also found the body of an unidentified man in Coral Gardens on Monday morning.
Additionally, the body of a used car dealer was found with bullet and chop wounds in Kendal, Manchester early Tuesday morning.
It has been identified as that of 45-year-old Damian Taylor, of Water Mouth, Porus in the parish.
The police say Mr. Taylor’s nude remains were found in the trunk of a black Toyota Mark X motor car about 12:30.
The vehicle was parked in the vicinity of the Kirkvine Sports Club.
And in another incident in St. James, a 15-year-old female student of the Irwin High School was among two people shot and wounded in the community of Ramble on Monday.
Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake has vowed to intensify the targeting of suspects linked to serious crimes across the country.
This is part of the High Command’s push to reduce murders significantly this year.
Figures from the Jamaica Constabulary Force show that 372 murders were recorded between January 1 and September 5 this year.
This is a 21.5 per cent decrease compared with the same period last year, when 474 murders were recorded.
Some 215 fatal police shootings have been recorded so far this year.
