The St. James Police say they are close to a breakthrough in the murder of a member of the Montego Bay New Testament Church of God last Wednesday.
Cora Thompson was selling books at the entrance to the church on Water Lane when she was shot several times by a man.
Members of the church who were attending a fasting and prayer service at the time of the shooting were left traumatised.
Commanding Officer for St. James, Senior Superintendent of Police Eron Samuels and a team worshipped at the church on Sunday to show support and offer reassurance to members.
“As it relates to the incident, we are following some very strong leads and we really believe that a major breakthrough will come through very soon. So we just want to support the church at this time. And we are not here for the media, we are just here to ensure that the church recognises that they have the police here to support them.”
He says the police are still investigating the motive for the shooting, adding that claims of a land dispute cannot be confirmed at this time.
