The conductor seen in a video assaulting two schoolgirls on a public passenger bus in the Corporate Area has been arrested.

In the video, which has been widely circulated on social media platforms, the man is seen repeatedly punching and hitting one of the girls before turning to the other teen when she came to the defence of her schoolmate.

A statement from the Constabulary Communications Network said the man presented himself to the Half Way Tree Police Station following contact by law enforcement.

He was subsequently transported to the Kingston Central Police Station on Tuesday for processing.

The police say investigations are continuing and they are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.

They added that cases of violence, particularly those involving minors, are treated with the utmost seriousness.

Members of the public are being encouraged to utilise lawful channels to resolve disputes.

In the meantime, the Transport Authority says the assault of the students aboard a public passenger vehicle is being treated seriously and has been referred to the relevant teams for review and investigation.

The Authority says it remains committed to empowering commuters and continues to advance its public education and engagement initiatives to ensure commuters know how they can be protected from incidents of this nature.

It reiterates that all public passenger vehicle operators are expected to maintain the highest standards of safety, order, and respect for all commuters at all times.

Operators are also reminded that they are entrusted with the safety and dignity of passengers and are expected to uphold professional conduct in the execution of their duties.
