Police Commissioner Dr Kevin Blake claims there are individuals who are determined to undermine the country’s progress against violent crime and is urging members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force not to allow these persons to distract them or derail the work being done.
He warns that the country has reached a critical point in sustaining the reductions achieved.
The Commissioner did not identify any individual or group in his comments, but said there are people who appear unwilling to welcome the progress being recorded.
Commissioner Blake, in his weekly Commissioner’s Corner in the Force Orders, said members must remain focused on their responsibility to the Jamaican people.
In that regard, he said they should be mindful of criticisms, distractions and what he described as attempts to create conditions for the country to return to previous levels of violent crime. He noted that some individuals have gone further by making direct threats of violence against agents of the state and state institutions.
Jamaica is currently recording historically low levels of murder. The country ended the third quarter of 2026 with 122 murders, the lowest quarterly figure in more than 30 years. That surpassed the previous three-decade low established during the first quarter of this year.
September ended with 35 murders.
