Neita Garvey warns of looming health crisis amid irregular garbage collection

Opposition Spokesperson on Local Government Natalie Neita Garvey says a health crisis looms due to the irregular collection of garbage.

Mrs. Neita Garvey says citizens are required to pay the relevant taxes despite the services not being provided.

“No Jamaican would want to develop a big dump in your town square if their garbage was being collected at home. There has been no schedule that anybody can [rely on] to know that on Monday, on Wednesday and on Friday the garbage truck will be coming through this community. So you can’t put out your garbage with any confidence that the garbage truck will come and pick it up. If you do put it out there, between the dog and the puss and the rats, there is now a health and environmental hazard created in your homes, your health and your community. We expect government to play its role,” she contended.

Mrs. Neita Garvey was speaking at a recent People’s National Party town hall meeting in Hanover.
