Fear and tension have returned to Naggo Head, Portmore, just days after families displaced by a deadly fire expressed concerns about ongoing violence in the community.
Residents awoke to news of a double murder in the area on Saturday, prompting a heavy police presence and renewed anxiety among community members already struggling to recover from recent tragedies.
Images from the scene showed law enforcement personnel maintaining a presence in the community as investigators probed the latest bloodshed.
The development comes against the backdrop of a long history of violence in Naggo Head. In 2021, several families whose homes were destroyed in suspected arson attacks vowed never to rebuild in the area, citing fears for their safety.
Among them was dressmaker Eugenie Coley, who said at the time that she no longer wanted to live in the community after losing her home in a blaze believed to have been deliberately set.
Another resident, Georgia Samuels, who lost both her house and grocery shop, lamented that innocent residents often become trapped in violence linked to feuding groups.
The latest incident has also reopened wounds for families affected by previous tragedies in the community. According to information circulating among residents, one woman who survived the 2021 fire and was featured in media coverage later lost her son and son-in-law to violence. Her pregnant daughter is reportedly recovering in hospital after being struck by a bullet during the latest attack.
Police have not yet released official details surrounding the double murder, and investigations are ongoing.
