MP Phillip Paulwell claims lack of adequate consultation regarding NMIA runway expansion and impact on Port Royal

Member of Parliament for Kingston East and Port Royal Phillip Paulwell has raised concerns about what he describes as inadequate consultation surrounding the development project at the Norman Manley International Airport.

Mr Paulwell, speaking recently at his annual constituency conference at Vauxhall High School, said the issue was particularly concerning as Port Royal has recently experienced flooding during high tides, with seawater now invading sections of the roadway.

He said that the situation highlights the need for greater consultation and careful consideration of the potential impact of the airport runway development on surrounding communities.

Some residents of Port Royal share the MP’s concern that the runway construction may be contributing to the higher tides and increased flooding while others do not believe the two things are connected.
