Jamaica has seen a 22 per cent decline in murders so far this year, according to the latest statistical report from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, covering the period January 1 to July 11.
According to the JCF, up to July 11, the country had recorded 291 murders since the start of the year. That is 83 fewer than for the corresponding period last year.
For the most recent weekly review – July 5 to 11 – there were 16 killings.
The latest statistics come days after the JCF reported a significant improvement in its murder clearance rate.
According to the police, detectives cleared 304 murder cases from January 1 to July 4, resulting in a murder clearance rate of 111 per cent, up from 71 per cent during the corresponding period last year.
The JCF says the rate reflects the resolution of both current and cold cases, including investigations dating back nearly two decades.
St James remains the police division with the highest murder tally, recording 38 homicides since the start of the year. St Andrew South follows with 25 murders, while Clarendon has recorded 22.
St Ann has registered 20 murders, and Kingston Eastern and St Andrew North have each recorded 19.
The JCF’s latest crime data also show an overall 18 per cent reduction in major crimes, compared with the corresponding period in 2025.
Burglaries, robberies, rapes, shootings and incidents involving persons being wounded have all declined as well, according to the JCF.
It’s really heartwarming to see a dad so determined to be there for his daughter. Did he have to overcome any specific challenges to make it happen?
YES this is a lovely story, it made me smile, good dads are still out there, to God be the glory.
