There is a sense of relief among residents of Union district in Grantham, Clarendon after a 15-year-old boy was charged for the murder of a 64-year-old Hyacinth Johnson.
Ms. Johnson was killed on July 1.
Stephen Williams, Councillor for the Ritchies Division, said residents are relieved that someone has been charged in connection with the killing.
Mr. Williams described the murder as alarming, noting that the incident caused great concern in the community.
He said residents are now hopeful for justice, as he commended the police and community members for their input in the investigation.
Mr. Williams also urged parents to pay closer attention to their children, particularly if they notice signs of depression or other mental health challenges, and to seek help when necessary.
The 15-year-old has been charged with murder and is expected to appear in court shortly.
Residents are now awaiting the outcome of the court proceedings.
