Following a recent spate of murders in Manchester, the police say they are redoubling their efforts to reduce the number of murders and target lottery scammers.
The parish has recorded 23 murders since the start of the year.
In less than two weeks, the parish registered a double murder on Caledonia Road on July 18, and two men being shot and injured at the entrance to Bellefield High School on Sunday.
Addressing residents following a walkthrough of several areas, Deputy Superintendent Natalie Hall-Williams admitted that while murders are out of control, residents should be assured of a coming calm.
“I know in short order you are going to see reductions in murder, reduction in shooting because I know of initiatives that [are] being done. You need to assist us while we implement strategies, review our strategies and see how best we can treat with the crime situation that is happening in Manchester,” she urged.
She added that lottery scamming has for some time been a challenge in Manchester, but has appealed for residents not to turn a blind eye to suspicious individuals and activities in communities.
“And if you, the citizens of Manchester, don’t stand up with the police officer, it is only going to get worse. We are going to go at these scammers, and we have our strategies in place. We had a meeting, a management meeting with our commanding officer, and we were looking at some strategies that we are going to implement coming into this week, into next week. But if you are not a criminal, if you are not associated with any criminal, then you have nothing to worry about,” the deputy superintendent stressed.
