A man was shot and killed minutes before midnight in Standpipe, St. Andrew.
The incident marks the second fatal incident in the community in days, after 24-year-old Imani Richards was fatally stabbed by an ex-girlfriend on Friday.
In Monday night’s incident, it is understood that the man, who has not been publicly named, received six gunshot wounds about 11:50 p.m.
He was reportedly the owner of a restaurant called ‘Whoppa’ in the community.
Superintendent Mark Harris, Commanding Officer for the St. Andrew Central Police, told Radio Jamaica News that the fatal incident is believed to have stemmed from an interpersonal conflict.
“It is not gang related, however, we suspect that there may have been a dispute…a couple months ago…and it may have ended tragically. We have a suspect and we are moving forward to see what we can get with this case,” he said, adding that it is being treated as a priority.”
Superintendent Harris said the police have been deployed to keep a close watch over the area to ensure tensions do not escalate.
