The main road from Green Island to Glasgow in Hanover has been closed due to the collapse of the embankment during heavy rains on Thursday.
The National Works Agency [NWA] says the road is closed in the vicinity of the Apostolic Church in the community of Kendal.
Janel Ricketts, Community Relations Officer at the NWA, says a team from the agency has conducted a preliminary assessment of the damage.
Ms Ricketts is advising that, in the interim, motorists traveling from the direction of Green Island and wishing to go beyond the affected section of road in Kendal, should use the alternative route through Riley, Kingsvale, and Prospect.
