A Jamaica Defence Force soldier was shot and killed along Orange Street in Kingston last night.
He has been identified as 37-year-old Andrae Thompson.
The shooting happened in the vicinity of Prestige Bakery.
The Gleaner understands Thompson was shot and injured by unknown attackers at around 11:00 p.m.
He was later pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital.
His licensed firearm was recovered by the police at the scene.
The Kingston Central Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating the incident.
