Jamaica-born Lauderhill Vice Mayor Richard Campbell charged in domestic battery case

Jamaica-born Richard Campbell, the Vice Mayor of Lauderhill, Florida, is expected to appear in court on Tuesday after spending Monday night in the Broward County Jail.

Campbell, 70, has been charged with simple domestic battery and felony tampering with or harassing a witness or victim, according to law enforcement authorities.

Details surrounding his arrest remain limited. Campbell was taken into custody on Inverrary Boulevard and Environ Boulevard.

According to a report by WPLG Local 10, the allegations stem from an incident involving Campbell’s ex-girlfriend.

The felony tampering charge allegedly relates to Campbell attempting to contact the woman in an effort to have a restraining order against him dropped.

Campbell denied the allegations before being jailed, saying he has no prior criminal record during his 35 years in public life. He also described the case as a political smear campaign.

Campbell was last elected in 2024 and is currently on the ballot seeking re-election to City Commission Seat 4.
