11-year-old boy killed in two-vehicle collision in St. Ann

An 11-year-old boy is dead and a man admitted in hospital in serious condition following a two-vehicle collision on the AGR Byfield Highway in St. Ann’s Bay, St. Ann on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Jaheem Scott of Windsor Road in St. Ann’s Bay.

According to the St. Ann Police Traffic Department, about 3:30, the driver of a Toyota Voxy minivan was sitting in vehicle which was parked on the left of the highway facing westerly direction.  

Another adult and two boys aged 14 and 11 were in the trunk sheltering from the rain.

The driver of a Toyota Succeed motor car reportedly overtook a line of traffic, picked up a skid on the wet road surface, then lost control of the vehicle, which slammed into the back of the Voxy. 

The three persons seated in the trunk were injured.

They were taken to the nearby St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital where Jaheem was pronounced dead.

The other child was treated and released, while the adult passenger remains in the hospital.

The driver of the Toyota Succeed was taken into custody.
