Jamaica splashed their way to another silver medal in horribly wet conditions in Tokyo at the World Athletics Championships inside the Japan National Sadium.
Like their male counterparts, the island’s women made one change to the line-up, which got them to the final with Andrenette Knight coming in to replace Roniesha McGregor on the third leg.
With the rain still falling torrentially, Jamaica were in the mix from the gun with Dejanea Oakley handing the baton over to Stacey-Ann Williams in second place, albeit already several metres behind the United States.
Williams was unable to make any impact on the American advantage while Knight put in a tenacious third leg, yet still trailed the medal favourites by ten metres at the final baton change.
And with world-leading individual star Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone to bring the stick home for the US, Nickisha Pryce never had a realistic chance of catching her rival, who was given a remarkable 47.82 split.
However Pryce defied the awful conditions to clock 48.50 while Williams was also given a sub-50-second time of 49.59.
The US clocked a 3:16.61 championship record while Jamaica’s silver medal was earned through a season’s best 3:19.25.
