FNID has charged six people with breaches of Firearms Act and Dangerous Drugs Act

The Firearms & Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) has charged six people with breaches of the Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction, and Regulation) Act and the Dangerous Drugs Act.

They were among ten people apprehended in separate incidents following a week of high-intensity, intelligence-led operations during the period Sunday, March 08 to Saturday, March 14.

The FNID said these operations resulted in the seizure of one 9mm pistol, with six rounds of ammunition along with more than 15 kilograms of cocaine, valued at just under $10 million, along with a quantity of ganja.

It’s reported that on March 8, FNID personnel intercepted a man acting suspiciously in Georges Valley Manchester. The police said a search revealed a Smith & Wesson pistol in his possession. He was charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Unauthorised Possession of Ammunition.

He is scheduled to appear in court on April 18.

Meanwhile following a vehicle interception on the Mandela Highway on March 4, detectives charged two men on Monday, March 9.

A search of their vehicle allegedly uncovered 1.2 kilograms of cocaine and a quantity of ganja.

Both men face six joint charges, including possession, dealing, and trafficking of cocaine and ganja.

The FNID also arrested three foreign nationals at Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport. A British woman was held after attempting to smuggle nine kilograms of cocaine, while a British man tried to smuggle 1.9 kilograms of the same, both while boarding a flight to England on March 12.

On March 14, another British man was apprehended after attempting to board a flight to England carrying 6 kilograms of cocaine.

All three have been charged with Possession of Cocaine, Dealing in Cocaine and Taking Steps Preparatory to Export Cocaine.

The identities of the accused are being withheld pending further investigations.
