A mass meeting of transport operators is to be convened in the Corporate Area on Sunday to discuss the outstanding 16 per cent fare hike in light of the increase in the global price of fuel due to ongoing turmoil in the Middle East.
The implementation of the increase has been delayed for two years.
Egeton Newman, President of the Transport Operators Development Services (TODSS), said an application for another fare hike is now due.
Mr. Newman said the transport operators are not willing to accept a further delay in the fare adjustment.
“We are going to be hearing from them, and I know the minister will have a listening ear. We should have met with him this week. We might not be able to meet him this week again; today is Thursday. But the fact is, they have to secure themselves and our operators, they cannot take it any longer,” he lamented.
He was speaking Thursday on the Morning Agenda on Power 106.
