Detectives from the St Andrew South Police are searching for a group of men behind a deadly attack on a member of the Jamaica Defence Force off Waltham Park Road last night.
The shooting occurred about 8:51 on Stephens Lane.
The soldier has been identified as 24 year-old Daniel Crawford of a Spalding, Clarendon address.
A policeman, who was travelling with the soldier, escaped being seriously wounded after also coming under attack.
The police say the officer shot one of the gunmen after the man pointed a firearm at him.
It’s understood that the soldier was visiting a female friend when he was attacked.
